Opera NOVA is a volunteer based, non-profit organization in the DC metro that focuses on educating children, particularly those from under-served communities, about classical art. They produce 3-4 operatic performances a year for local communities and schools.
The organization produced and performed Monkey See, Monkey Do for a group of elementary school students and I had the honor of photographing one of their performances.
Welcome to G-squared's blog!
As a photographer, I spend a lot of time focused on the beauty in people and in surroundings. However, I also volunteer my services to organizations and people that work on improving the lives and environments of people who are consistently underrepresented, under-served and/or mis-understood. While I love what I do as a career, I have found fulfillment and satisfaction in helping people in need.
I'm still trying to determine how I can use my craft to promote greater awareness. In the meantime, I've decided to focus this blog on photography I do as a volunteer for different organizations and people. We'll see how this works and where it ends up.
If you hear of any organizations that need volunteer photographers in the DC metro area, please contact me on my contact page and let me know! I'm always looking for opportunities to help out local organizations, schools, activists and foundations that promote social justice for all, economic development, education and health.
